It's so crazy to know how lucky we are to have fresh running water at our fingertips. We can get a drink of water, take a long shower, flush the toilet, wash dishes and clothes...without blinking an eye!
Not too long ago the people of Kersa Illala were drinking water from the river that runs near the village. At times the river was like raw sewage...and they were drinking that "water" and the river was used for the livestock, a garbage dump, dead animals, bathing, and washing dirty clothes. Sanitation and hygiene were non-existent and the water borne disease rate in the village was very high.
(unfortunately the farangi's or foreigners, still had to drink water from water bottles...our stomachs aren't quite adjusted to the local water).
Village of Hope made getting fresh water to the village a top priority and in 2005 the LDS Church donated money to build a fresh water well. It's AMAZING what a difference clean water can make!!!!
