Meeting people of the village: Kersa Illala

One thing is FOR SURE....
the people of Ethiopia LOVE to get their picture taken!
Thank goodness for digital cameras! They all wanted me to take their picture and then to look at the screen. Most do not have mirrors or prints of themselves...so seeing themselves is quite the treat! They would just laugh and laugh and laugh...and then strike a different pose...

These pictures are of our first walking tour of the village of Kersa Illala. A lot of the villagers just followed us around...so I just kept taking pictures. As you can see...most of them seem to be very happy! My first thought was how friendly everyone was. All the kids want to hold your hand, give you a hug, and try to speak English with us. Most are very genuine, but there's always the occasional "will you be my sponsor" (which basically means, will you pay for me to go to school or bring me to America) and other sorts of begging. All in all, it was a nice first impression of the village as a whole.

This boy is showing me a picture of his sponsor family.

This little baby is wearing just a shirt.
No diapers in Ethiopia. Just free as a bird!
