Bulcha: the boy my parents sponsor

My parents first went to Ethiopia in April 2007. On that trip they met this boy named Bulcha who they decided to sponsor...which basically means pay about $50/year so he can go to school. Children and families are very appreciative of sponsorship, since many would not have the opportunity to attend school otherwise. It's been neat for my parents to see Bulcha again in 2008 and then again this year on our trip. We noticed Bulcha's shoes were in BAD shape (see picture below)...so we searched through the supplies and found some soccer cleats. They were the only thing in his size! A couple days later we saw him wearing them....just like regular shoes. Everyone loves soccer there, so he was extra proud to be wearing them!

We all met his father and grandmother (his mother is dead). His father actually knew English really well and his grandmother was super nice and very, very grateful.
