Bonzo, the nurse from the clinic invited us over to his house for lunch. Ethiopian people are very generous when they can be, so for him to invite us over was a huge honor. My parents first met Bonzo in 2007 on their first trip Ethiopia, so they've become good friends. Bonzo has been wanting them to come to his house for some time now. Bonzo's house is very nice for Ethiopian standards, he built it himself. He lives there with his new wife and several of his other extended family members, including some of his young siblings. Bonzo wanted to show us all his wedding photos and wedding video. It felt very American like....bragging over your wedding day...and it all seemed very western...a pretty white dress, posed photos, elaborate reception, long wedding video. They were very proud. Besides the fact that I wasn't feeling that well and wasn't really in the mood to be trying new things, I did try most of the food (it's polite to at least try it all) and most of it was okay...especially the fruit....that's really the only thing that I knew I was eating!
They had a "Christmas" tree all lit up and decorated. Bonzo said they do this for Christmas and Easter...and Easter was coming up.
A lot of the houses we went to didn't have any furniture...just cement floors and maybe a mattress, so I'm pretty sure his house was a nice house.(DeAnna, Bonzo's little sister, me, Bonzo's wife, Bonzo, mom, and Randy)

It's been good reading through these posts and seeing part of your experiences. Thank you for sharing. It is amazing how it's such a different world out there that many of us don't know anything about except for what we hear. The pictures add too it.
