Shashamene Flood

The city of Shashamene was badly flooded just a few days before we arrived in Ethiopia. Shashamene is where our hotel was and near the village we were primarily working in. Many people died from the flash flood and many, many more were displaced with their homes/belongings ruined. We took a brief tour and saw some of the damage from the flood. It was amazing. One lady was crying so hard when she was telling us about everything she lost. She had worked her whole life...and then to just lose it all. Heartbreaking.

An example of the inside of a damaged home.

The river bed that couldn't hold all of the water.

A local clinic was badly damaged. They told us a million dollars worth of equipment was lost. That's a lot of money and probably took a very long time to accumulate all that equipment and supplies!
Some medical equipment in the mud.

Outside the clinic.
The water line in one of the clinic rooms.
A random wet/dried phonebook at the clinic.
